The Dog Bowl Effect

Have you ever noticed that if you put your dog's very own dog food in another dog's bowl your dog will eat the dog food like it was covered in gravy or something. They won't waste a minute in gobbling up every last morsel. Well last night we experienced a similar effect but not with Echo our dog. Lincoln has been somewhat of a picky eater for the past three or four months. He'll eat sparingly at meals, sometimes choosing to wait until the next meal to see what might grace his plate and hoping for peanut butter and jelly or macaroni and cheese. Well last night he chose not to eat his fresh halibut fish sticks, home made mashed potatoes from the garden and foccacia bread. I was a little surprised. It was a carb lovers dream! And my boy is a carb lover. Barrett as predicted ate nearly every bit leaving only a few dobs of mashed potato which his chubby little hands couldn't seem to maneuver away from the grasp of the plate. Linc left all of his potatos and I couldn't let those delicious, buttery things go to waste so Levi generously plopped Linc's potatoes onto my plate. The boys watched. Then Linc began to reach over and eat every last drop of potato mush from Bear's plate and Bear began picking fish stick crumbs from Linc's plate, both boys eating in a fury! Levi and I watched in amazement! So this is how you get a finicky boy to eat his food, simply put it in front of another dog, er, boy!

*Disclaimer*- Yes, the Harris House Table Manner's Handbook is coming to a book store near you :) I'm sure it will be an instant top seller!

haha! This is how we trick Byron into eating his dinner as well--we pretend to take it and start eating it, and he all of the sudden HAS TO HAVE IT IMMEDIATELY! ;o) Little boys are the coolest things on earth.
