Mushroom Hunting

We have been going mushroom picking quite a bit recently. Levi has been learning about all of the different types of edible mushrooms (with no side effects :) and he really enjoys eating them. While I am a fan of the flavorless kind you buy in the store, the wild mushroom are a bit strong for me but I'll cook 'em and find 'em! Lincoln and Barrett really enjoy hunting for them and it makes for a great homeschool outing. We had Jamie and the kids and Bill and Kay over for a day of mushroom hunting and had so much fun! We didn't find the kind of mushrooms that we started looking for but we found a whole bunch of King Bolete's. It was a great day!

"hmmm... edible or hallucinogenic... "

Micah was so funny, he wasn't sure about all the mushrooms but he sure loved looking for them and playing in the sand!

"definitely hallucinogenic... definitely"

My happy one armed mushroom hunter! We told him that he could pick and sell mushrooms then he could go to the market (aka the state fair or an auction) and buy himself a duck. He's been a mushroom hunting fool ever since!

Jamie and I had fun trying to find some edible one's. At one point Jamie grabbed a deadly amanitus (which is deadly :) and asked if it was what we were looking for... I said a quick "no!". But this mushroom she found was definitely a good one!

Surveying the loot

And to finish it all off grandpa Bill gave Micah a bounce on an old tree branch. Linc was sorely dissapointed that he couldn't do it one armed but he had a great time watching Micah laugh and giggle his little heart out!

A great time was had by all and when we got home we dried the mushrooms and have been enjoying them (well Levi, Bill and Jamie have) ever since!

Elk Season Update: LEVI GOT A COW! Yeah we've got meat :) He got her around 9:00 this morning and is on his way home right now!
